At Pacific NW Dental Center, we believe that children need to be treated differently than adult patients do. We use kid-friendly terms, work at a slower pace, and allow plenty of time for any questions your little ones may have. We know that their experiences at our Tacoma dental office will shape the way they view dental visits for many years to come, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We’ve also added some kid-friendly amenities to make our younger patients feel more at home in our office:
If you’re not sure when to bring your child in for his or her first checkup, it might be sooner than you think! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children establish a dental home by their first birthday, or no later than the eruption of their first tooth.
Just as our younger patients have unique needs for communication, they also have their own concerns when it comes to dental treatment. We welcome children of all ages to Pacific NW Dental Center and offer a complete range of dental services for toddlers, teens, and every age in between.
You’re more than welcome to accompany your child to the treatment area while he or she gets familiar with our office. Education is empowering, so we take every opportunity we can to make your child’s visit a learning experience. We even let kids touch some of the instruments so they feel less nervous!
Dental sealants fill in the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, an area where food particles commonly get caught and cause cavities. Dr. Lee can apply sealants quickly with no shots or drilling, effectively protecting your child’s teeth for years.
Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and has even been proven to help reverse the early stages of decay. Patients of all ages can benefit from fluoride exposure—especially kids—so Dr. Lee usually recommends ending each cleaning with a concentrated fluoride rinse.
Tooth-colored fillings require less preparation than traditional metal fillings, which means fewer shots and less drilling. They’re also very natural-looking, so you won’t even notice a difference in the appearance of your child’s smile.
Kids and teens who participate in contact sports and high-impact recreational activities are at an increased risk of dental injury. A custom-made mouthguard will protect your athlete’s teeth and gums while also preventing more serious head trauma like concussions.
